Coreena R. McKavetz

Coreena Rae McKavetz, 71 of Pana, formerly of Taylorville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, January 17, 2025, in her home.  She was born on October 12, 1953, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Vern Bowers Jr. and Evelyn Louise (Morris) Bowers.  She married David McKavetz on May 3, 1971, in Fillmore, in her parent’s home.  Coreena worked for Dr. Chen for many years in his clinic, the eggroll factory, and assisted with dinner parties that he hosted.  She was a gifted decorator and sold Home Interior for several years and she loved to shop.  She was a talented gardener, she loved to grow many flowers including Zinnias, Black Eyed Susans, Lillys and many more.  Cooking also brought joy to Coreena, especially spaghetti, pancakes, and coconut cream pie.  Coreena grew up and was baptized in the Baptist church, and she walked daily with the Lord in her garden. More than anything she loved being a wife, mom, grandmother, and sister to her family whom she loved dearly. 

She is survived by her husband: David McKavetz of Pana; daughters: Stacy Kietzman (Josh) of Riverton, Shananne Gesell (Gary) of Kincaid, Deana DeClerck (Micheal) of Assumption, and Emma Allen (Donnie) of Rosamond; step-son: Merrill Turner (Jessica) of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and siblings: Margaret Manley (Kent) of Ramsey, Sharon Moreland of Bingham, Robin Moreland (Rick) of Ramsey, Tammy Wilson (Bill) of Hillsboro, and Deanna (Bobby) Litaker of Altamont; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Betty and Tony McKavetz; great grandson: Zander Friesland; and brother-in-law: Carl Moreland. 

In accordance with her wishes, Coreena will be cremated, and a memorial service for Coreena will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Travis Warner officiating.  The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon on Saturday.  Memorials may be made to Taylorville VFW Post 4495 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
