Edwin Rowlette Gibbs, 100, of Pawnee, IL, formerly of Taylorville, IL since 1936, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence.  Edwin was born October 11, 1924, in Tracy City, TN, the son of Lois and Minnie (Adams) Gibbs. 

Surviving are their children, Carolyn (Wayne) Fry of Melbourne, FL, Judith Hill of Mattoon, IL, Janice (Peter) Ramirez of Garden City, KS, Chris Edwin Gibbs of Hayes, VA, Laurie (Jay) Reische of Rochester, IL, and Maria Gibbs of Taylorville, IL; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and both of his wives. 

Edwin proudly served his county in the United States Navy during the WWII era and then retired from the Naval Reserves.  He was an avid pilot and would be seen flying planes out of Taylorville Airport.  After his military retirement, he worked for C & IM Railroad for 43 years as the Taylorville Station Agent before retiring. He was a senior elder at the Life Tabernacle Church and was a member of the church for many years.  

The family will receive family and friends at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  A graveside service with military honors will follow at Glen Haven Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorial contributions may be made to Life Tabernacle Church, 800 East Elm Street, Taylorville, IL.  62568.
