Julio J. Monge

Julio J. Monge, 90 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on January 20, 1935, in Tovey, the son of John and Catherine (Bellino) Monge.  Julio graduated from Kincaid High School in 1953 where he was an accomplished athlete, participating in track, basketball, and football.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life and later for many years for the Illinois Secretary of State teaching driving courses to senior citizens.  Julio’s faith was an important part of his life and served in many ways as a part of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Julio also dedicated many years of volunteer service to the Christian County Senior Center including fundraising and meals on wheels.  He was an active member and past commander of the Kincaid American Legion Post 905 and served on the cemetery board for the City of Taylorville.  Julio not only gave back to many organizations in his community, but he was also quick to help those in need, usually in an anonymous fashion.   He enjoyed taking car rides and was affectionately referred to as Grandpa BeepBeep by his great grandchildren.  He always looked forward to morning coffee with the McDonald's crew.

He is survived by his children: David Monge (Patty) of Illiopolis, Robert Monge of Taylorville, and Karen Hendricks of Taylorville; granddaughter: Amy Nation (Tyler) of Taylorville; great grandchildren: Avery Nation and Alyvia Hinds; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ron, Elizabeth, Lillian, John, Margaret, and Donald.

A funeral mass for Julio will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. John Burnette officiating.  The visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the church.  Burial, with military honors, will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Christian County Senior Center.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
