Mercedes Hale, 84 of Mt. Auburn, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in her home.  She was born on February 1, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Cecelio and Anna (Martinez) Garnica.  She married James Hale on March 17, 1962, in Roselle.  Mercedes served as a registered nurse for many years.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  She and her husband loved to travel.  They enjoyed trips all across Europe, the Caribbean, and extensively throughout North America, Mexico with Egypt being her favorite. 

She is survived by her husband: James “Bill” Hale of Mt. Auburn: children: Jim Hale (Dian) of Illiopolis; Anna Hutchison (Scott) of Geneva, and Martin Hale (Tiffany) of Mt. Auburn; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Gloria Garza.

A private family funeral mass will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and cremation rites will be performed following the mass.  Memorials in Mercedes memory may be made to Catholic Charities. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
