Jimmie A. Roach, 84, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on August 7, 1940, in Rolla, MO, to the late John A. and Ruby (Painter) Roach. On August 25, 1961, he married the love of his life, Janet Parrish, and they spent many happy and loving years together.
Jimmie served in the Air Force and later worked as a coal miner for many years before retiring. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and of the Christian County Coal Mine Museum. In the 70’s he raced stock cars and enjoyed watching Nascar. In his free time, he loved building coal mine models, dancing, playing cards, and meeting friends for coffee. He was a loving husband, father, and friend.
Surviving is his wife: Janet Roach of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Kristie (Paul) Jaeger of Kincaid, IL; Anita (Dennis) Bluhm of Oshkosh, WI; and Lori Neville of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Alan Jaeger; Brian Jaeger, Matthew Bluhm, Ryan Bluhm, great-grandchildren: Jaxen, Bodhi, Hunter, and Tate; and two nieces: Pam Russell and Kathleen (Randy) Groenwald.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Ruby Roach; son: Eric Roach; grandson: Justin Craig; step-mother: Norma Miller; brothers: John David Roach; Howard Bohman; Arthur Roach; sisters: Nancy Gensler and Juanita Powell; as well as his niece: Debra Roach.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Taylorville Christian Church. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor James Jones officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials in Jimmie’s honor may be made to Taylorville Christian Church or to the Christian County Coal Mine Museum.
