It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Eugene Wombacher Jr., who left us on February 28, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on September 25, 1953, in Decatur, Illinois, Robert was a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a tapestry woven with love, compassion, and a profound sense of caring for those around him.
Robert was the son of Robert Wombacher Sr. and Lois Seidel Winwood (Richard). He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Morgan Britton, and dear family members including Uncle Harvey Seidel, niece Angel Phillips, and nephew RJ Smith. His legacy of love and kindness will be carried on by those who remain.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Marlina Canzona (Andrew), and his son Bobby Wombacher, both of whom continue to honor their father's spirit. He was a proud brother to Randy Wombacher (Jackie), Cheryl Wombacher, Georgina Wombacher, Betty Sexton, Donna Smith, and Pam Szerletich (Bill). His family also includes nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In the 1970s, Robert served his country honorably in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment and love for his nation. After his military service, he pursued various careers, working as a taxi driver, bartender, and retail clerk. Throughout his life, Robert built a reputation for being a compassionate and caring individual, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fan of sports, particularly the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and loved spending his leisure time playing computer games. These hobbies reflected his playful spirit and his ability to find joy in both competition and camaraderie.
As we remember Robert, a man who touched the lives of many with his kindness and compassion. His family and friends will forever hold dear the memories of laughter shared, lessons learned, and the love that he gave.
There will be no funeral service. He will be cremated, allowing his memory to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we say goodbye, let us honor his legacy by embracing the same compassion and care that he shared with the world.
