Charles Edward Delahunt

Charles Edward Delahunt, 91 of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on December 21, 1933, in St. Elmo, the son of Paul William and Elsie Mae (Jackson) Delahunt.  He married Alberta Ann Skinner on September 3, 1955, in Taylorville, and she preceded him in death on August 24, 2016.  Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from February of 1952 until January of 1954.  He completed his basic training at Ft. Knox and went on to clerical school at Ft. Hood.  He was a member of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Armored Division, 78th Field Artillery and served with that unit in Germany during the Korean War, working on ammunition trucks, delivering ammunition to the artillery guns.  Throughout his life he worked in several occupations including an auto mechanic, semi and farm truck driving, tour and school bus driving, and worked for the Taylorville Park District as a security guard.  He enjoyed tinkering and building projects of all kinds.

He is survived by his children: Gene (Cyndy) Delahunt of Cabot, Arkansas, Deborah (Jim) Weber of Maryville, Carol (Chris) Gardner of Decatur, Cathy (Rick) White of Taylorville, Karen Riggs of Battleground, Indiana, Betty (Brett) Rahar of Taylorville, and Peggy (Brent) Windell of Taylorville; many grandchildren,  great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and siblings: Annabelle Vericker of North Pekin, and Donna Arkebauer of Nokomis.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: John Edward Delahunt; and siblings: Homer William Delahunt, Robert Delahunt, and Mary McKee.

A visitation for Charles will take place from 1:00p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Interment with graveside veteran’s honors will take place following the visitation at the Nokomis Cemetery.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
