F. Dwight Pope, 91, of Mechanicsburg, IL, passed away at 4:35 p.m. March 16, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family. 

Dwight was born February 6, 1934, in Taylorville, IL, the son of Oliver and Delphia (Humphrey) Pope.  He married Grace Tuxhorn on December 13, 1952, in Springfield, IL.  She survives.

Also surviving are their three sons, Gary (Beverly) Pope of Blue Mound, IL, Randy (Patty) Pope of Edinburg, IL, Marty Pope of Edinburg, IL; five grandchildren, Christopher (Beth) Pope of Riverton, IL, Ashley Richno of Chatham, IL, Tiffany (Zac) Copelin of Edinburg, IL; Amy (Wayne) Ealey of Edinburg, IL, and Jennifer White of Taylorville, IL; seven great-grandchildren, Hudson, Bryce, Laney, Cash, Henry, Justin, and Gabrielle; a sister, Ruth (Neal) Nichols; and a brother-in-law, Ben (Mary Alice) Tuxhorn; and a sister-in-law, Linda Pope.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James Pope.

Dwight was a workaholic who always kept himself busy with work and mowing.  He loved his family dearly and cherished moments he got to spend with them.  He was a Mason and a Shriner for many years. He worked for over 30 years as a Rochester school bus driver.  He also was a barber in the area for over 60 years. 

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rochester Cemetery.  Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rochester Masonic Center Tyrian Lodge 33, 121 E Main St, Rochester, IL 62563.
