Martha Katherine “Kate” Graham Buesinger, 67, of Morris, formerly of Stonington, passed away surrounded by family and love.
Born on August 12, 1957, in Stonington, Kate was the ninth child of Daisy and Matt Graham. Though named Martha, Matt called her Kate—and it stuck.
Kate married the love of her life, Gary Buesinger, in 1979. Together they raised two children, Jenny and Matt, and built a life full of laughter and love. In 1989, they moved to Morris, where Kate formed lifelong friendships, most notably with Janie O’Brien Brown, her shopping and coffee soulmate.
Kate was known for her fun-loving spirit, her infectious laugh, and her effortless style. She never missed a chance to support her kids—whether on the sidelines of a game or with home-cooked meals and endless snacks. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was usually done shopping by November.
In 2019, Kate and Gary faced unimaginable loss with the sudden death of their son, Matt. Her strength in the face of grief was inspiring. Joy returned with the birth of her granddaughter, Olivia Joy Buesinger, who became her greatest delight.
Kate is survived by her husband of nearly 46 years, Gary; her daughter, Jenny (Todd) Sperry; and granddaughter, Olivia. She is also survived by her ten siblings: Bill Graham, Ann Altman, Nancy Fulk, Mag Dickerson, Nell Smock, Pete Graham, Julie Graham, Theresa Oller, Jane Butcher, and Lorraine Briere.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Daisy Graham; her oldest brother, Tom; and her cherished son, Matt.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington, followed by a funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. and a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. A memorial service in Morris will be held at a later date.
Kate’s love and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
Memorial donations may be made to the Buesinger family for a fund for Kate’s granddaughter, Olivia or to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
