Bonnie Louise Lebshier Smith, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Illinois. Until the fall of 2022, she was a life-long resident of Edinburg, Illinois; then she moved to Hickory Estates in Taylorville, Illinois, where she lived her remaining life. She was born in Edinburg on June 11, 1932, to Elsie Rigg Lebshier and Charles Lester Lebshier. She married Rollin Raimer Smith on June 28, 1949 in Rochester, Illinois.
Bonnie attended Edinburg Schools and Lincoln Land Community College. She was a member of Edinburg Christian Church. She was employed by the Edinburg School District for 21 years as a bus driver. Bonnie was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothing, as well as many beautiful quilts. She loved gardening, and was especially eager to plant flowers in the spring. One of her pastimes was jigsaw puzzles, 1000-piece, please! She was also an avid reader. She was a good friend to many people in her life and enjoyed visiting with them. When she moved to Hickory Estates, she befriended the other residents and staff, learning all their names, and considered them family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollin in 2009; a grandson; Christopher Michael Joslyn in 2007; two brothers, Robert and Roger Lebshier and two sisters, Lois Hunsley and infant, Dorothy Lebshier. She is survived by five children, two sons: Mark Steven Smith (wife, Linda) of Edinburg and Shawn Raimer Smith (wife Barbara) of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and three daughters: Dorothy (Dottie) Aylene Joslyn of Springfield, Missouri; Connie Louise Warnsing (husband, Kent Randy Warnsing) of Galena, Illinois; and Gail Kathleen Smith of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Bonnie lived a full, eventful life, and she will be missed by family and friends. The family will host a celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Edinburg, visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Refuge Ranch or Edinburg Christian Church. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
