David Eugene Loyd, 71, of Illiopolis, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 12:15 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on December 16, 1953, in Springfield, the son of Donald and Margaret (Ferguson) Loyd.  He married Linda Simmons on March 7, 1981, in Springfield.  Linda preceded him in death on February 8, 2021. 

Surviving are his daughters: Paula Hartman of Park Hills, MO; Peggy (Tyler) Horne of Illiopolis, IL; a son, Brian Loyd of Illiopolis, IL; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Linda (John) Morris of Georgetown, IL, Debra Loyd of Springfield, IL, Anita (Wayne) Marquis of Springfield, IL, Danny (Kim) Loyd of Springfield, IL, Marilyn (Dave) Mcubbin, Carolyn (Dave) Messmore of Springfield, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; his brother Sam; and a son-in-law, James. 

David was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He enjoyed traveling to Indiana and Oklahoma for camping trips. He also enjoyed riding his trike around locally and listening to Elvis Presley. 

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.   A funeral service will follow the visitation at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
