Larry “Rock” Upton, 72 of Edinburg, passed away June 7, 2025, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Rock was born July 1, 1952, in Taylorville, the son of Hubert Upton Jr and Marilyn (Perry) Upton. After finishing high school, Rock joined the U.S. Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver for 42 years.

Rock was a very generous man. He would often be found helping at various benefits and auctions to help those in need in his community and many other communities. He played the role of Santa Claus during Christmas time for many years. Rock was a member of the Cool Cruisers Car Club and loved his motorcycles. Most of all, Rock loved and cherished his family.

He is survived by his fiancé, Jackie Upton; daughters: Joanna (Patrick) Judge of Cornland, Crystal (Bill) Marquis of Decatur, stepdaughter: Angela (Matt) Berry of Alton, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as his faithful companion: Cheeka AKA “Zoomie”.

Rock is preceded in death by his parents, and stepbrother Wayne Upton.

Per Rock’s wishes, cremation rites are to be accorded. Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday June 18, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, with a Memorial Service starting immediately after visitation, also at the funeral home.
