Brenda Ollethia Hammond, 74, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on June 7, 2025, at her residence.

She was born on December 28, 1950, in Taylorville, to the late Albert Ray and Viola Ruth (McGuire) Booker. In 1976, she married Gary Hammond Sr., and they spent many happy and loving years together before he preceded her in death on July 11, 2016.

Brenda worked in home healthcare for ten years. She was a very generous and caring person and was proud to be able to give to disabled veterans with her monthly donations. She loved listening to Elvis, watching movies and wrestling, as well as coloring and doing diamond art in her free time. Above all, she loved spending time with her girls. She was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother, and is missed dearly.

She is survived by her daughter: Christina (Randy) Edgington; grandchildren: Layssa (Jordan) Sleeth; Lexi Taylor; great-grandchildren: Hazel Marie Sleeth; sister: Elizabeth (Robert) Hanna; brothers and sisters-in-law: Karen Yarbrough; Annie Hammond; Paula Wells; Janet Hammond; Roger Hammond; Jerry Hammond; Dennis Hammond; Jeff Hammond; as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gary Hammond Jr., her sister, Martha Booker, and brother, Mike Hammond.

Per Brenda’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and no services will be held at this time. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
