Thomas Eugene Durbin

Thomas Eugene Durbin, 65, of Morrisonville, passed away at 1:00 a.m. June 11, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. 

Tom was born February 10, 1960, in Taylorville, the son of Gene and Carolyn J. Durbin.  He married Tonya Kirkpatrick on August 13, 1988.

Surviving are his wife, Tonya Durbin of Morrisonville; his children, Stephanie Walton (Ronnie) Durbin of Morrisonville, Joseph (Jenna) Apps of Alabama, Lucas (Kate) Durbin of Taylorville, Tomi (Tucker) May of Taylorville, and Audrey Durbin (Austin Dunkirk) of Springfield; his grandchildren, Allison Walton (Joseph Pop), Ashley Walton, Ava Walton, Nicolas Apps (Francheska Apps), Joseph “Broady” Apps, Rylie Durbin, and Reagan Durbin; his great-grandchild, Ryder Pop; his siblings, Bo (Joy) Durbin of Taylorville, and Sharon Travis of Taylorville; and his beloved cat, Bobo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Carolyn Durbin; his nephew, Joshua “Josh” Durbin, and his mother-in-law, Faye Kirkpatrick. 

Tom, a dedicated coal miner for many years, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and hard work.  He had a passion for riding motorcycles and enjoyed camping trips to the lake.  Known for his generosity, Tom would do anything for anyone.  His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was also famous among loved ones for his delicious homemade noodles.  Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. 

Visitation will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.  A funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home.  Graveside service will be held in Harvel Cemetery following services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Morrisonville Fire Department or Morrisonville Community Ambulance Service.
