It is with profound sadness that we celebrate the life of Jim Marblestone, who passed away on July 16th, 2025, in Taylorville. Jim graced our world with kindness and indelible warmth. Today we honor a man that touched countless lives—a journey marked by generosity, laughter, and love.
From the earliest days, it was clear that Jim was destined to make a difference in the lives of others. Born October 11, 1932, to Harry and Adele Marblestone in Taylorville, Illinois, he quickly became friends to many who remained his dear friends throughout life. His love of all sports, both participating and watching, kept a close connection with friends. From playing golf, basketball, cards or any game, he challenged himself and others. When he could no longer participate, he became an avid patron of watching even off-track betting. Up until the end, he enjoyed shopping for birthday and Christmas cards to annually send to all he knew. He never met a stranger and always seemed to know someone wherever he traveled. His steady calm demeaner and wicked sense of humor made him a joy to be around. Friends describe a confidant who listened without judgment and spoke with restraint and care.
When his father unexpectedly passed when Jim was 25 years old resulting in Jim taking over the family clothing business that started in 1881, he took on the challenge with grace, drive and determination that endured throughout his life. After starting a family, Jim decided it was time for an adventure. He moved he and his family to Hawaii which turned out to be an adventure of a lifetime. His children were forever changed and are grateful for his “anything is possible” attitude. When his health challenges started over 30 years ago, he faced them with the same drive and determination which made all the difference. Up to the very end, he was very blessed with a great attitude that kept him going. Along with his great attitude, he was very proud of his memory which endured. He will be greatly missed by his three children, Amy Marblestone Ryan (Dave), Sally Marblestone Kriegel (Bill), and Michael Marblestone (Jenniffer) as well as his 4 grandchildren, Zac Ryan, Nicholas Marblestone, Jade Marblestone and Cameron Kriegel. He is also survived by his stepbrother Bill Hopper (Marilyn), his ex-wife Joan Marblestone, and several cousins.
We are forever grateful for Zac Ryan who cared for Jim and met his demands with strength and patience. In addition, an army of help at Taylorville Estates assisted him daily with his regimented routines and contributed immensely to his quality of life. He enjoyed getting to know them all as his “never met a stranger” personality endured. Last but not least, we thank Terry and Noma Wright for getting him out so often to shop, lunch and enjoy the track.
As we remember and honor Jim’s life, we find ourselves reflecting on the many lessons he taught—often without a word. To face adversity with courage. To meet others with empathy rather than judgment. To cultivate joy in the everyday and to never take loved ones for granted. His life reminds us that greatness is measured not in accolades, but in the positive difference we make in the lives of others. Always loved and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at a later date. Memorials in Jim’s honor may be made to Amy Ryan and will be donated to “Jim’s girls” at Taylorville Estates.
