Charles V. Maxwell, 84, of Taylorville, IL, passed away after a five year battle with cancer on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on October 29, 1940, in Decatur, IL, to the late Charles J. and Mary Marie (Etchison) Maxwell. He married Rovilla (Anderson) Maxwell in Decatur, IL, on January 21, 1961.
Charles was a carman for the railroad until his retirement. He had a strong work ethic and always provided for his family. Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman, and racer and is missed dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Rovilla Maxwell of Taylorville, IL; children: Charles Eric Maxwell of Stonington, IL; Carla (Tom) Scribner of Decatur, IL; Stephen (Juanita) Maxwell of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Paul (Teresa) Maxwell; Charlene Maxwell; Ryan (Kristen) Scribner; Mallory (Ryan) Scribner; Sean Maxwell; Kaitlyn (Kyle) Kalk; several great-grandchildren; as well as his brothers: Marvin Maxwell and Lloyd (Sharon) Maxwell.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sarah Maxwell.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dave Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Old Stonington Cemetery.
