Richard Walker

Richard Walker, aged 93, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Macon, Mississippi, he was the son of Lucius Walker and Hattie Walker.

Richard dedicated 40 years of his life to Georgia Pacific in Taylorville, where he worked as a paper operator before retiring. Earlier in his career, he was employed as a dry cleaner at the laundromat, Asgrow Seed in Stonington, Illinois, and as a orderly in a hospital assisting medical and nursing staff.

He was an avid swimmer, fisherman, gardener and enjoyed barbecuing. Richard found joy in nature and the outdoors, often spending his free time cultivating his garden or enjoying peaceful moments by the water. Richard found most joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Taylorville, where he found comfort in praying and contributing to his community and cherished his faith.

Richard is survived by his children: Richard Walker Jr., Maxine Johnson, Barbara Ann (Dwight) Ross, Maurice (Terri) Walker, Glenn (Anne) Walker, and Jacqueline (Andy) Hymes. He is also survived by his brother, Willie (Tiney) Walker Sr., and a host of grandchildren, including Michelle “Hope” Walker, Leon Ragsdale III, Derick Patton, Dolores “Lois” Walker, Julie Bean, Gary Bean, Keishia Nunez (Manuel), Sara Betts, Maria Melo, David Ross, Daniel Ross, Isaiah Walker, Caleb Walker, Kristina Gross, Mariah Jones , Breanna Walker, Taiyana Walker, Jamila Ribas, Ricardo (Mary) Walker, Emmanuel Walker Frost and Derik Patton along with many other great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren, and relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lucius and Hattie Walker; his wife, Willie Mener; his brother, Chesterfield; and aunts Sue Ella Grissom and Dicey January, grandchildren, Fabian Walker as well as his mother-in-law, Willie Estelle Brown.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Arnold, Dr. Blackwell, the nurses at DMH ER, the nursing staff and doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rhonda, Hospice, and the dedicated nurses and staff at Imboden Creek Nursing Home for their compassionate care.

Service for Richard Walker will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, with Visitation 12:00 Noon and service at 1:00 PM at Walker Funeral & Chapel - North, 790 E. Mound Rd,
