Nancy Jane (Shrout) Mullins, 80, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at her residence. Nancy was born on January 5, 1945, in Taylorville, to the late Alva Merle “Pete” and Julia Stewart (Osborne) Shrout. She married Glenn Allen Mullins in Taylorville on December 29, 1978, and he survives.
Nancy was a graduate of Taylorville High School and attended Illinois State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Nancy loved working with children and teens and she spent her career as a P.E. teacher. She worked for three years at Main South High School and twenty-two years at Pana Jr. High School. In her free time, Nancy loved watching the Chicago Cubs play and loved to travel, especially to Colorado. She was also a caregiver to her two cousins, Joe and Bill Miller, and was an active supporter of the Special Olympics.
She is survived by her husband: Glenn Mullins of Taylorville, IL; son: Michael Bernt (Mandy) Mullins of Watertown, MA; daughter: Julie Ann (Tom) Elder of Kelso, WA; as well as her sister: Becky Freehill of Bloomington, IL. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents: Pete and Julia Shrout; and her sister: Sally Shrout.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
