Sharon Irene Younker, 84 of Taylorville, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in her home. She was born on November 27, 1940, in Peoria, the daughter of Carl H. and Lena H. (Cornello) Mammen. She married Richard Lee Younker on May 28, 1960, in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2004. Sharon graduated from Taylorville High School in 1958 and was proud to organize many class reunions and gatherings throughout the years. She worked for many years as a legal secretary at the Broverman Law Office. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Sharon enjoyed spending time at Rene’s with her friends, affectionately known as Rene’s Queenies. She volunteered at the Taylorville Food Pantry and previously was active with Little League baseball, serving as president of the organization.
She is survived by her sons: Richard L. Younker of Morton and Randy L. Younker (Beth) of Land of the Lakes, Florida; grandchildren: Claire Younker, Gabe Younker, Andrew Younker (Katy), Alyssa Barber (Jake), Ansley Younker, and Aidan Younker; great grandchild: Eleanor Barber; several nieces and nephews including Tracy Carls (Rob) of Stonington; and great nephews: Ross Carls (Kenzie) and Drew Carls (Mackenzie). She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers: Darriel Mammen and Raymond “Beans” Mammen.
A funeral mass for Sharon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. Michael Meinhart officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Taylorville Food Pantry. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
