Vella Mae Kimble

Vella Mae Kimble, 95 of Taylorville, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on June 16, 1930, in Benton, the daughter of Irva and Naoma (Loucks) Wingo.  She married Charles W. Kimble on June 22, 1951, in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1994.  Vella was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church.  Throughout the years she worked at the Frisina Hotel, for the Taylorville School District, and for many years at Rene’s.  Vella was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who never missed a game and could often be found cheering them on with family and friends. She loved spending peaceful days fishing and found great joy in supporting her kids, grandkids, and friends at their local sports events, always their biggest fan in the stands. A devoted caregiver, she spent many years compassionately serving residents, touching countless lives with her kindness and dedication. She also had a passion for travel, with unforgettable journeys to Russia and Ireland among her favorite adventures. At home, she cherished time with her family, enjoyed watching Gunsmoke, and could spend hours working on jigsaw puzzles. Vella will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of life’s simple pleasures, and the deep devotion she showed to those she loved most.

She is survived by her daughter: Marcia Spanhook (Tim) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Tiffany Coleman of Taylorville, Nick Spanhook (Julie) of Mountain View, California, and Ira Moses of Taylorville; great grandchildren: Sydney Coleman, Ryan Coleman, Jacob Coleman, Charles Spanhook, Ella Spanhook, Maddie Spanhook, Laine Moses (Jordan), Parker Moses, and Cooper Moses; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Danny Kimble; and siblings: James Wingo, Rusty Wingo, Curtis Wingo, Paul Wingo, Ann Wilson, Betty Davis, Kenneth Wingo, Larry Wingo, Wayne Wingo, Harold Wingo, and Donald Wingo.

A funeral service for Vella will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Metsker officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  The family requests casual dress, especially Cardinals attire or your favorite sports team.

Memorials may be made to Davis Memorial Christian Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
