Richard Ivan "Daffy" Johnson

Richard Ivan "Daffy" Johnson, 77, of Hewittville Illinois passed away at this home in Hewittville on November 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 28, 1948, in Springfield Illinois to Edward and Naomi (Foster) Johnson. Upon completing high school, Daffy enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He returned from his service duty with the rank of sergeant and soon married Sandra Caulder on April 10th, 1971, in Taylorville Illinois. Daffy retired from Bridgestone/Firestone in Decatur and went on to work in the auto service department at Walmart. Daffy enjoyed bowling in his younger years and switched to golf after retirement. Daffy lived his entire life besides military service in Hewittville and was very proud to be a boy from "The Patch".

Daffy is survived by his sons: Robbie I Johnson (Toni) of Taylorville, Illinois and Bradley Johnson of St. Louis Missouri, his grandchildren: Ryan Johnson, Macie Johnson, Hanna Waterman and Jeffrey Waterman, his brother: Gene Johnson, Sisters: Linda Johnson, Vickie Sue Davidson, and Betty Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Sandra Jo Johnson, brothers: Mike Johnson, Don Johnson and J.C. Johnson.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Daffy and his wife Sandra will be interred in Oak Hill Cemetery after the winter, and this date and time will be announced publicly. Memorials in Daffy's honor can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Taylorville Food Pantry. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
