LaVona Fern Jarvis

LaVona Fern Jarvis, 92 formerly of Springfield passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing Home in Illinois.

LaVona was born to Charles and Maude Adabelle (Konkler) Hurley of Creston Iowa. She married John H. Jarvis in 1950 who preceded her in death in 1997. Also preceding her were her eight siblings Darlene, Bernice (Woosley), Beuhla (Connelly), Alfred, Lucille (Bennett), Merlin, Jane (Cottrell), and Doris (Moen).

She was a devoted Pentecostal Christian and a member of Living Water Church of Springfield, her faith in Christ was a cornerstone of her life and conversation. LaVona spent much of her married life as a mother and homemaker, whose hobbies included painting, song-writing, ceramics, and dog-grooming. She was particularly passionate about her horses and her own published poetry. She retired as a clerk from the Secretary of State’s Springfield office.  

She is survived by her two sons, John W. (Patsy) Jarvis and Rock (Mary) Jarvis; three grandchildren Billie (Troy) Jarvis-Freeman, Matthew Jarvis, and Amanda Jarvis; and a great-grandchild: Virginia and Ariel.

A private memorial service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
