Lester D. Southard, 96 of Taylorville, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2026.  He was born on September 11, 1929, in Taylorville, the son of Charles and Nellie (Richardson) Southard.  He married Sharon Mills on February 12, 1971, in Taylorville.  Lester was a life-long farmer, and he loved every minute of it.  He often said, “it would be hard to enjoy farming if you didn’t believe in God”. He also enjoyed being involved in his community and served on several boards.  Lester was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville. 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Sharon Southard; children: Carolyn Wetzel, Marla Dowdell, Travis Southard (Karrie), Terri Brown (Dennis), and Tim Britcher (Betty); 17 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Don and Bob Southard; sister: Marjorie Samson; and first wife: Delores.

A funeral service for Lester will take place at noon on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.  The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service and burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
