Edmona “Mona” J. Vitali, 95, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 10, 1931, in Taylorville, daughter of the late Harold F. and Clara F. (Gelonek) Parrish. On July 2, 1950, she married Aldo Vitali in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with many beautiful years together before Aldo preceded her in death on November 5, 2012.
Mona was a lifelong resident of Taylorville. She graduated from Taylorville High School and enjoyed playing girls softball. For over 40 years, she worked as a bookkeeper for JCPenney’s retail store in Taylorville. Outside of her career, Mona was strong in her faith and was a devoted and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She found great joy in cooking and took pride in her garden, which she lovingly tended to year after year. In their spare time, Mona and Aldo enjoyed traveling together. Over the years they took many fishing trips and spent many relaxing days at the lake. She was a loving wife and a proud aunt and will be missed dearly by her loved ones.
Mona is survived by her nieces: Carol (Wayne) Bridgwater of Rochester, IL; Patti Trutter of Alvarado, TX; Joyce (David) Jamison of Taylorville, IL; Deborah Ewins of Lincoln, IL; Connie Vitali (Mark Bradel) of South Beloit, IL; nephews: Albert Vitali (Kathy) of Gainesville, GA; Robert Parrish of Toluca, IL; Meridith Parrish of Lincoln, IL; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and one great-great-great-niece.
She was preceded by her parents: Harold and Clara Parrish; husband: Aldo Vitali; sister: Virginia Davis, and her husband Charles; brothers: Harold R. “Slick” Parrish, and his wife Dotty; Robert E. Parrish, and his wife Wilma; brother-in-law: Silvio Vitali, and his wife Marian; nephews: Louie Trutter and John Ewins; as well as her great-nephew: J.R. Ewins.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. A funeral service will begin at noon with Father John Burnette officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials in Mona’s honor may be graciously made to St. Mary’s Catholic School.
