Betty Kennedy Fines, 79, of Owaneco, IL, passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 19, 2026. She was born on February 6, 1947, in Green Cove Springs, FL, to the late Gerald and Tina (Wingo) Kennedy.

Betty married John Fines on January 10, 1989, in Paducah, KY. They spent many loving years together and were blessed with two children. She took pride in her community and served as Township Trustee for Johnson Township for over 12 years. Betty was a selfless person with a big heart and a strong desire to help others. She was a loving mother and a proud grandmother who treasured the memories she made with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband: John Fines of Owaneco, IL; children: Kerry “Missy” Ruff; Richard Matthew Ruff (Vanessa Herman) both of Taylorville, IL; granddaughters: Alexandria Mills of Owaneco, IL; Ava Slyvester of Taylorville, IL: great-grandchildren: Ella, Madalyn, Barrett, and Kimber; brothers: Rick (Mary) Kennedy; and Roger Kennedy both of Taylorville, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was reunited with her brother, Michael Kennedy, and granddaughters, Kallie and Tillie.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.
