Dolly Doris Long, age 94 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.
Doris, the daughter of Carey Meade Massey and Rosa Willow (Traub) Massey, was born February 5, 1932, in Sorento, Illinois. Doris helped raise her siblings and was one of seven children.
Doris and John C. Long were united in marriage on October 15, 1949, at Mt. Nebo Church. They enjoyed 61 years together, John passed away April 26, 2011. They had three children: John L. Long (deceased), Kathie Valentine, and Tom Long.
Loving grandchildren: Michael Long, Adam Stephey, Barbara (Keith “Buzz”) Daugherty, Brad Stephey (Stephanie Walton), and John K. (Misty) Long.
Precious great-grandchildren: Lotte Stephey, Felix Stephey, Sloan Stephey, Rocky Stephey, Kady Daugherty, Kaden Daugherty, Savannah Long, Chelsey Long, Andrew Long, Traesun Guthrie, Kyler Adams, and Kyler Davis.
She is survived by three sisters: Marilyn Ayers, Jackie Paine, and Sandy Richardson.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son John L. Long, son-in-law David Valentine, siblings: Udell Massey, Clifford Massey, and Ronald Massey.
Doris was a devoted mother, caring and dedicated grand and great-grandmother. When not spending time with her grandchildren, Doris loved to play pinochle, crocheting, quilting, baking, gardening, or spending time with her dog Heidi. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
A celebration of Doris’s wonderful life will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home, 203 West Oak, Greenville, Illinois. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Brown Cemetery. Memorials are asked to be made to Bond County Hospice, c/o Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home.
