Clifford Hazlet Jr., 72 of Stonington, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in his home. He was born on February 25, 1954, in New London, Connecticut, the son of Clifford and Betty Louise (Smith) Hazlet. He married Pamela Tackett in 1992 in Decatur. Cliff worked as a truck driver for many years for Yellow Freight and was an active member of the Teamster’s Union. In 1981 he was the track champion at Farmer City Raceway and Macon Speedway in the mini stock division. He loved NASCAR and the Cubs. He could fix anything and enjoyed doing home projects and spending time in his man cave that he was extremely proud of. He could often be found sitting at his bar watching the big screen. His man cave was his happy place and it’s where he wanted to be when he passed, a wish that was fulfilled. The family are extremely grateful to have had Cliff in their lives and will be missed more than words can say.
He is survived by his wife: Pamela Hazlet of Stonington; children: Jason Hazlet (Barb) of Moweaqua, Jamie Lugari of Harristown, Jason Tackett (Tracey) of Macon, and Tami Hazlet of Peoria; grandchildren: Tyler Hazlet, Jacob Hazlet (Kayla), Kaylee Justice, Bryana Lugari (Loren), Leo Lugari, Gianna Lugari, Liana Lugari, P.J. Wolford, Karrissa Wolford, and Steven Nichols; 7 great grandchildren; brothers: Turney Hazlet and Jerry Hildebrand (Betty) both of Florida; and his faithful companions: Gunner and Junior. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother: Juanita Hazlet; sisters: Sharon and Brenda; sister-in-law: Ruth Hazlet; and 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.
Cliff will be cremated and a graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at South Wheatland Township Cemetery with Troy Page officiating. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
