Monroe Howard “Moe” Johnson, 94 of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on May 18, 1931, in Taylorville, the son of William George and Edith (Corns) Johnson. He married Judith A. Jouglet on June 24, 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked for many years as the manager of Harper gas station in Taylorville. Moe was a passionate gardener who won many awards for the produce he grew in his garden. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini basketball.
He is survived by his wife: Judy Johnson of Taylorville; children: Diana Carlen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bill Johnson (Candy) of Taylorville, Gary Johnson (Gerry) of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Robin Phillips (John) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
A funeral service for Moe will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Scott Parks officiating. The visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the funeral and burial will be in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christian County Animal Control. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
