Richard “Rick” Dean Baker, 54, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at his residence on March 21, 2026. He was born on August 30, 1971, in Mattoon, IL, to the late David D. and Sandra L. (Wollen) Milligan. He married Melisa “Missy” A. Gordon on September 13, 1993, in Lawton, OK, and they spent many loving years together before his passing.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Army and continued his life of service as an EMT and as a volunteer firefighter. He had a kind and giving heart and found great purpose in helping those in need.
In his free time, Rick enjoyed spending time outdoors going fishing, shooting, or four-wheeling. He had a love for music and was known as a walking karaoke machine by his loved ones. No matter what he was doing, Rick was happiest when he was spending time with his family. He loved deeply and wholeheartedly, and his family was the center of his world.
Surviving is his wife: Missy Gordon of Taylorville, IL; children: Laurel Gibbs (Jason Warner) of Atwood, IL; Devian (Abbregail) Baker of Pana, IL; Sheldon Baker (Karlee Wells) of Tovey, IL; Meaghan Baker (Zack Clark) of Caneyville, KY; bonus daughter: Keri (James) Jarvis of Fairview, MT; grandchildren: Cooper; Teagan; Enzleigh; Rhyker; Knox; Maddox; Jayce; Zavier; Gracie; Brynleigh; Elsie; bonus grandkids: Mallory; Brantley; Layne; siblings: David Scott Baker; David (Jennifer) Milligan; Joey (Sarah) Milligan; Chancelor (Ale) Baker; Melissa (Jesse) Foster; and Michele (Mike) Vantrease; his mother and father-in-law: Jan and Stan Gordon; brother-in-law: Jeremy Gordon (Tish); as well as his beloved dog: Odie.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Travis Baker, and his soul dog, Baby.
Per the family ‘s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and no services will be held at this time.
