Rebecca Joan Carraher, 68, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on March 31, 2026.
Rebecca was born on November 16, 1957, in Taylorville, Illinois, to Sherrill Jean (Popovich) Umberger, who survives her, and Richard Yewell Umberger, who preceded her in death. She spent her life rooted in the Taylorville community she called home.
On September 1, 2006, she married Mark Carraher, who survives.
She is also survived by her daughter, Amanda Marie Keele (Brent), and her cherished grandchildren, Madison Marie Keele and Kannon Lee Keele. Rebecca took great pride in her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, following their lives closely and supporting them in everything they did.
In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her stepchildren, Jessica Black (Chris) and Andrew Carraher; her sister, Christine Marie Compton (Loren) of Nokomis; her brother, Joseph Umberger (Ellen); and her nieces and nephews, Lane Compton and Morgan Milam (Joe), along with their families.
Rebecca built a respected career with the Illinois Association of Realtors, where she served as the Director of Ethics and Professional Standards. She was known for her professionalism, determination, and strong sense of integrity—qualities that defined both her work and her life.
Outside of her career, Rebecca found joy in the simple things she loved most. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was an avid sports fan. She rarely missed a chance to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals or Fighting Illini basketball.
Those who knew Rebecca will remember her as a tough, determined, and accomplished woman who was deeply generous with her family. She had a dry sense of humor that could catch you off guard and leave you smiling. Her strength, loyalty, and steady presence will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Fr. John Burnette officiating. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
