David D. Black, 73, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at his residence on March 31, 2026. He was born on April 13, 1952, in Springfield, IL, to William and Maxine (Stanton) Black. He married Norma J. (Robinette) Black on March 29, 1980, in Stonington. They spent many happy years together before she preceded him in death on September 21, 2024.
David graduated from Stonington High School and went on to work in the oil manufacturing industry. He dedicated over 40 years working for Bi-Petro Inc. David was a member of the National Hot Rod Association and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved to go camping and had a passion for drag racing, a hobby he has passed down to several generations. Most of all, he cherished the moments spent among his family and friends.
Surviving are his children: Tamara Green of Taylorville, IL; Michael D. (Darla) Brachear of Benton, IL; Greg (Joyce) Brachear of Decatur, IL; Christopher (Amber) Thomas of Andalusia, IL; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister: Marilyn (Dave) Sutton of Taylorville, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews and his beloved companion dog: Barney.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. and interment will follow at Harper’s Ferry Cemetery in rural Palmer.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
