Deloris Ann Carls, 84 of Stonington, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born on April 15, 1941, in Stonington, the daughter of Robert S. and Ina L. (Rodgers) Downs.  She married Robert G. Carls on October 7, 1962, in Stonington.  Deloris was a homemaker and also worked as a beautician.  She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville where she sang with the funeral choir.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society.  She also gave back to her community in many ways including volunteering with the Taylorville Food Pantry, Past President of the Stonington PTA, and Home Extension. 

She is survived by her husband: Robert Carls of Stonington; children: Robert Carls (Tracy) of Stonington, Ann Francisco (Brad) of Waterford, Wisconsin, Jeff Carls of Taylorville, and Rodney Carls (Nikki) of Pana; grandchildren: Drew Carls (Mackenzie), Ross Carls (Mackenzie), Brady Francisco, Jacob Francisco, Hali Carls Miller (Wes), and Brody Carls (Avery); great grandchildren: Aiden Carls, Ashton Carls, Jameson Miller, and Esme Miller; sister: Dianna Meyers (Harold) of Litchfield; brother: Dwane Downs (Sharon) of Stonington; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Dale Downs and David Downs; and sister: Donna Spengler. 

Mrs. Carls will be cremated, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Old Stonington Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Taylorville Care Center and Springfield Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care of Deloris.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
