Susan C. "Sue" Boggs

Susan C. “Sue” Boggs, 73 of Blue Mound, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026, surrounded by her family in her home.  She was born on May 27, 1952, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John W. and Elizabeth C. (Hisnanick) Lowther.  She married Kevin Boggs on February 9, 1991, in Lovington.  Sue was the third of four children born into a military family. As a true Army Brat, she traveled to numerous places across the country, and the globe. From the Embassy in Tehran, Iran, to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, and many places in between until, finally, Fayetteville, NC where her father retired from the Army and the family ended their travels.  Sue previously worked for Macon Metal, Airfloat, tended bar, and farmed. Sue was the kind of person who made life feel warm and welcoming to everyone around her. She had a gift for gardening, tending her flowers with patience and pride, and was known far and wide as the best baker—her kitchen always filled with something delicious to share. A talented seamstress, she could turn simple fabric into something special, just as she did with everyday moments. Sue found joy in birdwatching, quiet afternoons with a good book, and staying active with Zumba. She especially loved her trips to the Spoon River Drive, antiquing alongside her dear friend Thelma Melton, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Above all else, Sue’s greatest happiness was her family, and she cherished her grandchildren with a love that was constant, joyful, and deeply felt.

She is survived by her husband: Kevin Boggs; sons: Eric Batty (Melissa Scott) of Stonington and Michael Batty (Lorri) of Assumption; grandchildren: Megan Batty, Wyatt Batty, Brenna Barton (Bryce), Ayla Batty, and Danielle Arnold; great granddaughter: Birdie Lynn Barton; former husband: Scott Batty; brothers: Michael J. Lowther (Nancy) and Larry Lowther both of Baltimore, Maryland; honorary grandchildren: Travis Sunderland and Amanda Scott; Aunt: Eleanor Farina of Smock, Pennsylvania; nephews: John Wiesman, and Robert Wiesman; and several dear friends and extended family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Jane Wiesman (Hugh).

Sue will be cremated, and her family will host a gathering of friends and family from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Blue Mound Civic Center, 551 North Lewis St., Blue Mound, IL 62513.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
