Dale W. Harris, 93, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 14, 1932, in Auburn, IL, to the late Roy and Mary (White) Harris. He married Helen Grider on May 21, 1953, in Auburn, and they spent many beautiful years together and were blessed with three children.
Dale proudly and selflessly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and a long-term member of the American Legion and Wimmer Cemetery Association. Dale also had a lifelong love of baseball. He enjoyed playing in his younger years and later enjoyed coaching American Legion baseball teams. Dale also enjoyed watching professional sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was a faithful supporter of the Chicago Bears.
In addition to his love of sports, Dale found joy in many other interests and hobbies. He loved spending time outside and was fond of fishing and gardening. A true jack of all trades, he could repair almost anything and loved working with his hands. Dale had a special talent for woodworking and was especially proud of the grandfather clock he crafted, as well as many beautiful pieces of furniture he built over the years. Above all, Dale loved spending time with his family, often capturing the moments with his camera.
Surviving is his loving wife: Helen Harris of Taylorville, IL; his children: Karen (Gary) Erickson of Humble, TX; Mark (Deb) Harris of Evansville, IN; Gail (Raymond) Price of Canton, MI; grandchildren: Brian (Erin) Erickson; Christopher (Soraya) Erickson; Michelle (Derek) Tallent; Aarika (Jason) Cox; Braden (Kelly) Price; Westen (Emily) Price; 13 great-grandchildren: brother-in-law: Darrel Grider; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kiel Price, sister, Gladys Burgess, as well as his brothers, Lee Harris and Robert Harris.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00-12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. A funeral service will begin at noon with Pastor Tiney Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, IL.
