Gerealine “Gerry” I. Hartig, 95, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:50 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at her home. She was born on October 25, 1930, in Christopher, IL, the daughter of Claude and Pauline (Wilson) Shadowen. Gerealine married Paul E. Hartig in 1970 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death in 1978. Gerry graduated from Browns Business College in Springfield. She worked at SIU Medicine as a medical record supervisor for over 20 years. Prior to that, she had worked in data entry at St. Vincent for many years. Dedicated to her family, Gerry adored spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Playing with them and spoiling them was her passion. She also loved listening to Elvis, watching old cartoons and everything to do with Christmas. Gerry is survived by her daughter, Gina Richardson of Canton; grandchildren, Raechel Wempen of Clinton, Heather Poole of Taylorville, Brian (wife, Kambria) Wempen of Phoenix, AZ, Kellee (husband, Joshua) Derby of Canton, Joshua (wife, Marissa) Miller of Taylorville, Jeremiah (significant other, Morgan) Miller of Taylorville, and Raphael Garlinghouse II of Canton; great-grandchildren, Jenna Wempen of Taylorville, Ryann Ethridge of Taylorville, Madalynn Frailey of Clinton, Beckett and Quinn Wempen of Phoenix, AZ, Maddox, Khyson, Greyson, Hadleigh and Haelyn Miller all of Taylorville and one great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Barbara Coursey of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Colette Poole; great-grandson, Nikolas Frailey; and sister, Jackie Winner. Cremation will be accorded prior to private interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Memorial contributions may be made to: Boys Town or Children’s Miracle Network.
