Richard Wayne Stanley, 81, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at his residence on May 10, 2026. He was born on August 30,1944, in Taylorville, son of the late Thomas Douglas Stanley and Josephine Ann Schwab. On June 10, 1967, he married Sharon Ann Waddell in Auburn, WA. They spent 63 loving years together before his passing. Richard proudly and selflessly served his county in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. Following his service, Richard worked in the shipping department for Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill. He had a vast collection of baseball cards and loved golfing in his free time. Richard was a talented gardener and was especially proud of his vegetable garden. He enjoyed sharing his harvests with loved ones. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and is deeply missed by his loved ones.
Surviving is his loving wife: Sharon Stanley of Taylorville, IL; his son: Martin Stanley of Taylorville, IL; as well as his siblings: Florence Zamboni; Tammy (Barry) McGovern; Thomas (Chris) Stanley; as well as many other beloved relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ralph (Judy) Stanley and Pat (Butch) Gross; as well as his brother-in-law, Charles Zamboni.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a private burial with military honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later time.
