Mr. Don Gene Fassero, 87, of Kincaid, IL, passed peacefully from this life at home, with family by his bedside, at 12:05 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
He was born in Tovey, IL, on Monday, April 10, 1939, the son of James and Hannah (Berta) Fassero, Sr.
Don Gene married the former Judith Smith on November 24, 1962, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL.
Mr. Fassero was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL. He retired from Peabody Mine #10 near Pawnee after 40 years of service. Don was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was an avid bocce ball player and was inducted into the Bocce Ball Hall of Fame in Clinton, IN. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger — someone who could make anyone laugh with his jokes and stories. More than anything, he loved his family and found his greatest joy in the people around him. Whether he was enjoying a cold beer, playing bocce ball, driving his beloved truck listening to country music, or proudly mowing his lawn, he appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He also shared a special bond with his granddog, Rolly, who always brought a smile to his face. His warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of over 63 years, Judy Fassero of Kincaid, IL; one daughter, Angie and her spouse, Jeff Mason, of Chatham, IL; three sons, Todd Fassero and spouse Brian Fox of Evanston, IL, Rick Fassero of Kincaid, IL, and Jay Fassero and his spouse, Catherine, of Kincaid, IL; five grandchildren, Brandon Merano and his girlfriend, Justine Hellmer, of Mahomet, IL, Cassidy and her spouse, Justin Lentz, of St. Louis, MO, Dominic Fassero and his girlfriend, Taylor Hines, Reagan Fassero, and Lena Fassero, all of Kincaid, IL; a brother, Jim Fassero of Kincaid, IL; granddogs Ruby, Scooby, Boomer, Rolly, and Sadie; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Public visitation for Mr. Don Gene Fassero will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL. A Catholic Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 4:15 P.M. Tuesday for Mr. Fassero’s church family. Don Gene will be privately laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL, at a later date.
