Terry L. Shutt

Terry L. Shutt, 65, of Morrisonville, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, in his home.  He was born on October 19, 1960, in Bloomington, the son of James C. and Mary Jane (Leben) Shutt.  He married Valeri Noller on June 2, 1984, in Springfield.  Terry worked for the Springfield Police Department as a traffic warden, retiring after 36 years of service.  He received an accommodation from the Springfield Police Department for entering a burning home to save the lives of 2 occupants.  He was a member of Springfield Masonic Lodge No. 4, A.F.&A.M. and the Springfield Scottish Rite.  Terry was a man who never stopped learning or creating. He enjoyed building detailed models of military equipment, spending time shooting, talking on his ham radio, and crafting leatherwork by hand. Recently, he had taken an interest in learning the art of blacksmithing. One of his greatest joys was mowing on his tractor and spending time outdoors. Above all, Terry will be remembered for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife: Valeri Shutt of Morrisonville; children: Roy B. Shutt (Melissa) of Broadwell and Cassandra Drake of Athens; grandchildren: Nevaeh Drake, Geno Drake, Ricky Drake, Max Drake, and Lily Shutt; brother: James S. Shutt (Cheryl) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and aunt: Helen Duncan of Jacksonville.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sharen Mays.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville.  The service will begin with Masonic Rites followed by a service officiated by Chaplain Ricky Reid.  The visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral and burial will take place at the Morrisonville Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Masonic Dyslexia Center.  Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville is assisting the family with arrangements.
