Robert John Williams was called home to his God at 6:30 a.m., June 5, 2026. His caring cousins were at his side.
Robert was born March 16, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Derek Williams and Rosemary Agnes (May) Williams. He moved to Athens, Illinois, as a toddler and then on to Springfield. He spent the last few years of his life in Taylorville, Illinois.
Robert graduated from Edwin A. Lee High School in Springfield. He loved having a job. He spent many years with the SPARC program working as a housekeeper at Comfort Suites.
He was involved with Special Olympics from an early age. He participated in bowling, bocce ball, and snowshoeing as well as many other sporting events. He excelled in swimming and was an athlete at the 1999 Special Olympics world games held in North Carolina, where he won four medals.
He was a member of Scout Troop 312 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a member of the St Aloysius Church, was an altar boy, attended religion classes at Blessed Sacrament, and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.
Robert was a diehard sports fan. He rooted for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, the Fighting Illini, and Notre Dame. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling.
He loved playing his CD’s, watching old shows and reading. Harry Potter was a favorite.
More than anything, Robert loved his family. He had a remarkable gift for remembering everyone’s name, birthday, and relationship to each other. He was also known for his kind spirit, enthusiasm for life, and the joy he found in spending time with others.
He was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Rosemary, and his brother, Michael.
He is survived by his loving aunts, cousins, niece, nephew and a multitude of friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Sutton Memorial Home, 327 N. Clay St., Taylorville, IL. A prayer service and sharing of stories will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 4:00 p.m., with visitation to follow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m., at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 116 W. Adams St., Taylorville. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Robert’s name to Maria Center Ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, (PHJC’s) at P.O. Box 1, Donaldson, IN 46513.
