David Dwight Hendricks Sr.

David Dwight Hendricks Sr., 84, of Taylorville, IL, passed away, surrounded by family, on June 20, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center. He was born to the late Dwight H. and Marjorie A. (Ellrich) Hendricks on July 4, 1941, in Taylorville, IL. On December 31, 1960, he married Janet Sue Denning, they spent many loving years together and were blessed with two sons.

David graduated from Taylorville High School and went on to work for Peabody Mine #10. He dedicated over 30 years to his career as a heavy equipment operator before happily retiring.

David was strong in his faith and was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, IL. He had a love for woodworking and left behind many pieces that showcased his talent, including four dressers crafted for each of his grandchildren and dollhouses used by his grandchildren and now great-grandchildren. David was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed teaching and helping his sons with remodeling and other home improvement projects. During his free time, he loved watching Westerns. He had an impressive collection of Lionel trains, a hobby that he shared with his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

David and Janet enjoyed traveling together and with their family. David was especially fond of Estes Park, Colorado, where they frequently visited. His family has many happy memories of camping in the Rocky Mountains and enjoying time together.

David is survived by his wife: Janet Hendricks of Taylorville, IL; sons: David Dwight (Sandra) Hendricks Jr., of Taylorville, IL; Mark Alan (Kimberly) Hendricks of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Matthew (Amanda West) McKinney of Palmer, IL; Elyse (Kris) Ford of Rushville, IL; Erynn (Ryan) Trott of Champaign, IL; and Ethan (Sami) Hendricks of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren: Caroline Ford, Aeker Ford, Bennett Trott, Rhys Ford and Sutton Trott; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is reunited with his parents; siblings: Ronald Hendricks and Shirley Snow; and great-granddaughter: AJ McKinney.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation with Pastor Dennis Metsker officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
