James Bradley Cassidy, age 77, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his home.

James was born on March 5, 1949, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of James Leo Cassidy and Juanita Fern (Neisler) Cassidy.

James worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Memorial Hospital, formerly St. Vincent's Hospital, in Taylorville for more than 30 years. He took pride in caring for others throughout his career.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis and enjoyed spending his time doing the things he loved. James had a talent for cross-stitching, crafting, and floral arranging. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a lifelong animal lover who cared for many pets over the years, including fish, birds, cats, and dogs. He especially enjoyed attending gigs to watch his son play bass, spending time with his family, attending productions at The Muni, and visiting with friends at his apartment building.

James is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Mark) Garvey of Columbia, Missouri; his son, Jason Cassidy of Springfield, Illinois; and his grandchildren, August Garvey and fiancée, Paige, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Autumn Garvey and fiancé, Ryan, of Columbia, Missouri.

He is also survived by several cousins, including Carol (Jim) Hempen, Cathy Vincent, and Karen (Ivan) Benning, along with other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 204 North Pine Street, Nokomis, Illinois 62075.

Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Josef Muench officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
