Sarjit Kaur Gill, a woman of extraordinary intellect, unwavering determination, and boundless love for others, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 4, 2026, at her residence in Taylorville Estates, Taylorville, Illinois. She was born on September 6, 1922, in Agra, India.

Sarjit lived a life defined by the pursuit of excellence and a sincere commitment to the betterment of those around her. A brilliant and driven scholar, she earned a Master's degree in Education and a Doctorate in Psychology, accomplishments that reflected her deep intellectual curiosity and her belief in the transformative power of learning. She stood first in the competitive examination for the Punjab Civil Service, becoming the first woman ever admitted to the Punjab Civil Service in India, a historic achievement that opened doors for generations of women who followed.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sarjit was a woman of profound conviction. She participated in the freedom struggle of India, lending her voice and her courage to the cause of independence. Throughout her career, in addition to the various demands of the civil service, she carried with her a passion for teaching and for improving the lives of people, guided always by progressive ideals and a genuine love of humanity.

Following her retirement, Sarjit immigrated to the United States, settling in Taylorville, Illinois. Rather than embrace a quiet retirement, she took a position at Walmart, where her characteristic dedication and warmth earned her recognition as an award-winning employee for several years. Her strong will and sincerity endeared her to colleagues and customers alike, and she continued to touch lives in every setting she entered.

Sarjit is survived by her two sons, Gajinderpal and Pavinderpal (Dr. Pavi Gill, wife Amy); grandsons Gunvir (wife Brooke), Liam and Alex and a great granddaughter Olivia and sibling brother Amarjit. She was pre-deceased by her husband Suresht, son Ravinderpal and grandson Rustam.

A woman of Sikh faith who later in life embraced the tenets of other faiths, Sarjit lived in accordance with the principles of selfless service and equality, focusing on the promotion of human dignity. May she find eternal life in the light of divine grace and love.

Funeral services were held at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville, Illinois. The family extends its gratitude to all who have offered their condolences and support during this time of loss.
