William Thomas “Tom” Bellegante, 81 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in his home. He was born on July 24, 1944, in Taylorville, the son of Reno and Marjorie (Heath) Bellegante. He married Linda Joy Danko on August 26, 1967, in Taylorville. Tom lived a life of faithful service to his country, his community, and his Lord. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he continued his commitment to serving others as a devoted member of the VFW, where he faithfully served as chaplain of the Honor Guard for ten years, providing comfort and honor to countless veterans and their families. Tom dedicated 31 years to Commonwealth Edison at the Kincaid Power Plant, where he worked as an operating shift engineer. His commitment to the Taylorville community was evident through his membership at Taylorville First United Methodist Church, his service on the board of the Taylorville Credit Union, and his involvement with the YMCA, where he not only swam countless miles but also served on its Board of Directors. Guided by his deep faith, Tom founded Bellegante Ministry, through which he compassionately served those in need by officiating weddings and funerals, mentoring young people, and ministering to individuals and families who did not have a church home. Whether offering words of encouragement, a listening ear, or spiritual guidance, Tom's greatest joy was sharing God's love through a life devoted to helping others.
Tom is survived by his wife: Linda Bellegante of Taylorville; children: John Bellegante (Traci) of Murphy, Texas, and Lorrie Phillips (Charlie) of Bark River, Michigan; grandchildren: Caitlin Bellegante, Joshua Bellegante, and Rachelle Phillips-Biever (Barry Jr.); and great grandchildren: Sadie Biever and Riley Biever. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Laura Bellegante; and sister: Mary Beth Mitchell.
Tom will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery. A private celebration of life will also take place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taylorville VFW Honor Guard, Taylorville Food Pantry, or Christian County YMCA. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
