Gary Lynn Crowe, 80 of Foley, Alabama, formerly of Mt. Auburn, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 15 2026, at 1:00a.m. at his home in Foley, AL. He was born on May 4, 1946, in Decatur, IL, the son of Ottis and Anita (Eubank) Crowe. He married Carlene Butcher in October of 1966 and were together for 31 years. He then married Virginia Crowe, and they were together for 12 years. Gary graduated from Eastern Illinois University. He also obtained a Master's degree in Administration in Education at ISU.
He worked as a Teacher in Decatur and then in Pekin. He was a homebuilder and started his own company, Crowe and Son Builders. Later, he was a Deputy for the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department. He retired as a Detective. Gary ran in the St. Jude Runs, he loved movies, fishing at the farm, and spending time with his family.
Gary is survived by his children: Lynnette (Robert) Davis of Pekin, IL; Craig (Karen) Crowe of Nobelsville, IN; Kaleb Crowe of Foley, AL; grandchildren: Joshua Davis, Jared Davis, Nicole (Trevor) Shirley, Taylor (Jack) Hogan and Kendall Crowe; sisters: Barbara (Mark) Elrod of Rochester, IL; Patricia (Willis) Oller of Rochester, IL; Peggy Poitevint (Don Coontz) of Mt. Auburn, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nephew: Chad Elrod, Neice; Amanda Poitevint, Brother-in-Law; Ray Moomey.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 12:00-1:00p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation starting at 1:00pm with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, IL.
