Charles R. Dooley, 87 of Taylorville passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 7:49 a.m. at his home in Taylorville. He was born on June 25, 1939, in Kincaid, IL, the son of Robert and Gwen (Manuel) Dooley. Charles was the store manager at Woolworth. He loved woodworking, driving his model A car and he was one of the founding members of the 40 mile per hour club.

 

Charles is survived by his daughter: Courtney (Luis) Gutierrez of Belvidere, IL; son: Christopher (Elizabeth) Dooley of Elgin, IL; grandchildren: Aryana Gutierrez, Luis Gutierrez, Alexandra Gutierrez, Aubrey Dooley, London Dooley, Erin Dooley; sister: Sandra Estes of St. Louis, MO and Nephews: Sam Estes and Steve Estes. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

 

Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #4495 Honor guard.
