Florence “Dolly” Pauline Smith, 84, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on November 9, 1941, in Harvey City, IL, to the late William J. “Jack” and Mildred Catherine (Kollman) Kollmann. Dolly married Robert Smith on October 1, 1960, in Stonington. They spent many loving years together before his passing on March 31, 2026.
Dolly worked her way from route delivery person to front desk clerk at the United States Postal Service in Taylorville. Prior to working for the USPS, she was a dispatcher for the Taylorville Police Department. She loved bowling and quilting, but her biggest passion besides her family was antique collecting. She never met an auction or flea market she didn’t like.
She is survived by her sons: Chris (Traci) Smith of Sullivan, IL and John P. Smith of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Cathy (Jeff) May of Stonington, IL; grandchildren, Heather and Trevor Smith, Kenny Ogle, Madison and Tatum Smith; great-grandchildren, Adaline Smith, Kaleigh and Remington Buerk, and Dutton Merker; sisters, Rose Marie (Robert J.) Bohnhoff of Dietrich, IL, and Josephine Louise (Melvin Strunk) Mays of IA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers: Richard Leon “Dick” Kollmann and Clements Joseph “Butch” Kollmann.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Brief remarks of remembrance by Pastor Don Beetem will start the memorial gathering on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Sutton Memorial Home, 327 N. Clay Street, Taylorville, IL. Following the remarks, the family will receive visitors until 4:00 p.m. A family led Celebration of Life will be held following the memorial gathering on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 4:45 pm at the Evangelical Free Church, 319 S. Washington St., Taylorville, IL. Interment will be held at a later date.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Sutton Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
