Dorothy Marie Durbin, 101 of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on February 9, 1925, in Springfield, the daughter of Ray and Ann (Malony) Johnson. She married Floyd Eugene Durbin Sr. on May 6, 1946, in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2017. She was a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Dorothy was a homemaker and loved to crochet and sew clothes for her children’s dolls. She treasured her family and loved spending time with them. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who cherished her family dearly. Before marriage, she worked in a shoe factory and later worked in Central Supply at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital. She devoted much of her life to caring for her family and was actively involved in her children’s lives, volunteering as a room mother at their school and helping in the school library. Dorothy had a love for cooking and baking and enjoyed collecting cookbooks. She also had a special interest in bird watching, spending time learning about different species through books. She treasured her time babysitting her grandchildren and making memories with them. In her later years, Dorothy enjoyed relaxing and watching westerns. Above all, she will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and the many ways she cared for those around her.
She is survived by her children: Melvin Durbin of Nokomis, Gene Durbin (Sandy) of Jefferson City, Oregon, Sherry Stewart (Michael Evelsizer) of El Paso, Illinois, Deanna Vota (Martin) of Taylorville, and Steve Durbin (Nikki) of Taylorville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; sister: Patricia Lepkowicz of Virginia; and sister-in-law: Irma Durbin of Biloxi, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; second mother: Pauline Johnson; son: Donald Durbin; daughters-in-law: Ella Durbin and Diana Durbin; granddaughter: Dawn Durbin; infant great grandson: Bobby McDaniel; son-in-law: Bobby Stewart; and siblings: William Johnson, Roy Jonson, Ray Johnson, Chuck Johson, Robert Johnson, and Lorraine Wood.
A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor James Jones officiating. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home and burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville. McClure Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
