Lawrence B. Curtin

Lawrence B. “Larry” Curtin, 100, of Taylorville, formerly of Stonington, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Hickory Estates in Taylorville.  He was born on April 5, 1926, in Taylorville, the son of Lawrence F. and Marie (Colbrook) Curtin.  He married Patricia Jean Biehle on January 15, 1955, in Oak Park, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2014.  Larry was a lifelong farmer in the Stonington area.  He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.  He was an active member and past Trustee of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  Larry was active in many community organizations throughout the years including Stonington American Legion, Taylorville Knights of Columbus, Stonington School Board, Stonington Cooperative Grain Co, Illinois Grain Corporation, Stonington Community Bank, Growmark Inc, Illini Bank, and was a volunteer at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. 

 He is survived by his children: Mary Sue Swigert (Curt) of Blue Mound, Carol Ruggles (Randy) of Catawba, North Carolina, Diane Sample (Owen) of Edinburg, Therese Anfield (Jim) of LaGrange, Betty Peabody (Jeff) of Taylorville, Greg Curtin (Connie) of Stonington, Steve Curtin (Susan) of Stonington, David Curtin of Springfield, and Nancy Curtin of Decatur; 25 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; brother: Paul Curtin of Lisle; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings: Catherine Trueblood, Leo Curtin, William Curtin, Dorothy Tracy, and John Curtin. 

A funeral Mass for Larry will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Fr. John Burnette officiating.  The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Burial with military honors will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.   McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
