George Wilson Gillock of Taylorville

George Wilson Gillock, 89, of Taylorville, passed away August 30, 2012 at 11:54am at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.  He was born December 17, 1922 in Owaneco, IL., the son of George Hershel and Bessie Matthew Todd Gillock.  He married Marjorie Pauling Cordray in november, 1946 in Pocahontas, AK.  He was retired from Christian County Assessor office, owned and operated Standard Filling Station in Mt. Auburn, managed Mt. Auburn Grain Co. and was a former real estate agent.  He was a member of Lions Club, Mt. Auburn Fire Dept., American Legion, Moose Club, Mt. Auburn Methodist Church and WWII Veteran U S Army Sgt.

He is survived by sons; George David (Beverly) Gillock of North Ridgeville, OH., Joseph H. (Barbara) Gillock of Mt. Auburn; daughters, Jacqueline S. Thomas of Taylorville and Teresa A. (Jon) Andersen of Albert Lea, MN.; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Rock of FL. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Robert Cook officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery with military graveside rites.  Visitation will be Monday, September 3, 2012 from 5-8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Betty Smith of Taylorville

Betty Smith 86, of Taylorville passed away August 27, 2012 at 5:16pm at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born March 22, 1926 in Versailles, IL., the daughter of Manley and Ethel M. Green VanHyning.  She married Dudley D. Harvell in October, 1941 in Palmyra and divorced in December, 1969 and then married Donald G. Smith in June, 1976 in Las Vegas, NV.  She was a housewife.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons, Tom (Karen) Harvell of Taylorville and Zeke Harvell of Deadwood, OR.; daughters, Cherilyn (Dave) Mundhenke of Morrisonville, Christine Manzi Painter of Henderson, NV., Kathleen (Michael) Hemmer of Summit, OR., and Melissa (Mark)Randolph of Garland, TX.; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers and sisters, and daughter Pamela VanHyning.

Funeral services will be a private family memorial service at a later date with Rev. Larry Best officiating.  Inurnment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in rural Taylorville.

Paul E. Hibbetts of Glen Carbon

Paul E. Hibbetts, 96, of Glen Carbon formerly of Taylorville, passed away August 28, 2012 at 2:18am at Eden Retirement Center, Glen Carbon, IL.  He was born May 26, 1916 in Johnson Townshi, the son of Frank and Mabel Miller-Hibbetts.  He married Elizabeth Klinefelter in 1935 and she later preceded.  He was a farmer and a machine operator for the Christian County Highway Dept.  He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville.

He is survived by his daughter, Guenivere (Bill) Douglas of Millstadt, IL., 2 grandsons, one great-grandson; sisster, Jean Faulkner of Taylorville and a niece.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elizabeth, brothers, Dale and Orville Hibbetts and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Philip Neumann officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in rural Pana.  Visitation will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 from 5-8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Carl Eugene Tucker of Taylorville

Carl Eugene Tucker, 54, of Taylorville, passed away August 26, 2012 at 10:16am at his residence in Taylorville.  He was born September 13, 1957 in Taylorville, the son of Paul Miller and June Tucker Crawford.  He married Kim Lehenbauer in April, 1991 in Taylorville.  He was a Union Laborer of Local 159.  He was a member of Union Local 159, St. Mary Catholic Church, and North American Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; parents; sons, Charles Tucker, Ray Tucker, Christopher Tucker, and Timothy Tucker all of Taylorville; 8 grandchildren; brothers Dale and Timmy Miller of Stonington; sister, Dianne Clutter of Stonington; several aunts, uncles,nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded by his great grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 10:00am in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cementery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 5-8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Harold Eugene Brookens of Taylorville, IL

Harold Eugene Brookens, 88, of Owaneco passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Meadow Manner Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Taylorville. He was born January 17, 1924, son of John A. and Beula Brookens. He married Rosella Willingham on Ocotber 3, 1950. He was a retired employee of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, where he worked in maintenance and an active member of the Buckeye United Methodist Church.

He was survived by wife Rosella, sons Ralph Brookens of Springfield, Joseph Brookens of Taylorville, Daniel Brookens of rural Owaneco, Larry Brookens of Edinburg, Leroy Brookens of Rosamond, and Thomas Brookens of Taylorville, daughter Aleta Ann Raymond of rural Owaneco, 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, 2 step-great-grandchildren, sister Elsie McKittrick of Normal, sister-in-law Sue Smith of Pana and several cousins. He was preceeded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

Visitation and a celebration of life service for Harold Eugene Brookens will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Buckeye United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mound Chapel Cemetary in rural Owaneco.

Donald Lee King of Springfield

Donald Lee King, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Stonington, passed away Thursday, August 23 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. He was born October 21, 1925, the son of Lee Elmer and Eula Elizabeth King. He married Josie Yvonne Ford on April 30, 1946. King was a retired truck driver and a member of the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church.

He is survived by wife Josie, sons James King of Houston, TX, Donald V. King of Langleyville and Jonathon King of Caldwell AR, daughter Carol Lee King of Springfield, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grand children, 3 great-great grandchildren, brother Jimmy King of Calvert City, KY, sisters Fern Crews of Decatur and Faye McLemore of Benton, KY, and 16 nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and a granddaughter.

Funderal services for Donald Lee King will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetary in Springfield.

Hazel Alberta Ridgeway of Mt. Auburn

Hazel Alberta Ridgeway, 93, of Mt. Auburn, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012 at 3:50am at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville.  She was born October 13, 1918 in Christian County, the daughter of Otis Carl and Goldie Catherine Prior Dunn.  She married Edward Ridgeway in January, 1936.  He preceded her in death in December 1979.  She was retired from the Mt. Auburn School District where she worked in the cafeteria as a cook.  She was a member of the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Dean Hinton of Champaign, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Goldie Hinton, brother, Delbert Dunn and sister, Geneva Cole. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 11:00am at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, IL.

Joseph W. Joe Rodden of Taylorville

Joseph W. "Joe" Rodden, 69 of Taylorville passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at 8:12 pm at his home.  He was born August 15, 1943 in Taylorville the son of Thomas L. and Betty A. (Green) Rodden.  He married Judy L. Perkinson in June, 1979 in Taylorville.  He was a coal miner for more than 25 years and later with the Illinois Department of Transportation for 10 years.  He served in the US Marine Corps form 1964-1967 during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of VFW Post 4495 and Knights of Columbus Council 2120 both in Taylorville and American Legion Post 905 in Kincaid.

He is survived by his wife Judy Rodden of Taylorville; son, Tim Rodden of Taylorville; daughters, Vikki Rodden and Cindy (Mark) Sams both of Taylorville; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; brother: Jim(wife Debbie) Rodden of Taylorville, sisters: Kathy Morgan of Taylorville and Judy (husband Randall) Cotter of Hillview, IL, Father and Mother in law Eugene and Madge Perkinson of Taylorville, sister n law Dianna Molohan of Taylorville, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 24, 2012 at 10:00 am at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter, Pastor Becky Lembke and Sister Rose McKeown officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm August 23, 2012 at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home.

Karion Sue Hill of Springfield

Karion Sue Hill, 58, of Taylorville, passed away at 8:53pm Tuesday, August 14 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born August 3, 1954 in Herrin, IL, the daughter of Robbie and Juanita Rich Galean.  on February 27, 2010 she married Roy David Hill in Taylorville.

She is survived by her husband Roy Hill of Taylorville, son: Jerry(wife Patricia) Wagly of West Frankfort, IL. daughter: Angel McCarter of Taylorville, 4 grandchildren, mother: Juanita Galean of Maroa, brothers: Duane Galean of Millersville and Kenny Galean of Taylorville and sisters: Rosemary Galean of Olney and Sharon (husband Bob) Meyers of Maroa.  She was preceded in death by her father, 1 brother Curtis Eugene Galean and sister: Cathy Reeves.

There will be no visitation or services at her request.  Mrs Hill is being cremated.

Monica M Traughber of Rutherford, NC

Monica M Traughber, 94, passed away Thursday, August 16, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home in Rutherford, NC.  She was born at Oconee on December 21, 1917, the daughter of John and Catherine Pollman Mickey.  After graduating from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College(now EIU) in 1937, she taught in one room schoolhouses in Shelby County.  She later was employed as a bookkeeper at Wagner Cast Iron Co in Decatur.  She also taught school at St Mary's in Taylorville.  She was a bookkeeper at Stonington Cooperative Grain for 25 years, until retiring in January 1984.  She married Delbert Traughber on September 7, 1946 in Pana.  He preceded her in death on August 10, 1998.  She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and especially enjoyed providing floral arrangements for the church.  She was also active in the Stonington community and with Meals on Wheels.  Monica was blessed with a long life enjoyed with family and many wonderful friends.

She is survived by one son: Tom (wife Mary) of Crawfordsville, IN and one daughter: Colleeen (husband Mike) of Rutherford, NC.  Monica enjoyed the company of eight grandchildren: Matt and Kate Traughber, Stacey Gorsuch, Stacey Murphy, Stephanie Timmons and Emily, Marshall and Walker Grossell and seven great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one younger brother: Joe Mickey of Schaumburg.  

Visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Sunday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with a prayer service starting at 3:45.  Mass will be on Monday at 10am at Holy Trinity Church in Stonington with burial following at Old Stonington Cemetery.

Richard Bert Daykin of Taylorville, IL

Richard Bert Daykin, 85, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 6:33pm at Taylorville Care Center. He was born September 29, 1926 in Taylorville, IL, the son of John Bert and Thelma Maxine Daykin. He married Joan E Vaughan on June 29, 1947 in Taylorville. He was preceeded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Daykin.

Before his retirement, Richard was employed as a cost estimator for Zenith Radio. He attended DePaul and Washington Universities. He lived in the Chicago Area for 30 years before moving back to Taylorville. He was a veteran of the Navy serving aboard the USS Denver during WWII.

He is survived by his wife: Joan, daughter: Joni Rosenthall, sons: Michael, Richard, Andy, Chris, and Phillip. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a nephew.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 13, 2012 from 9-10am at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville. Keith Lynn Huckstep of Taylorville

Keith Lynn Huckstep, 57, of Taylorville, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 8:30am in his residence in Taylorville.  He was born June 28, 1955 in Decatur, IL, the son of George Eli and Edna L Green Huckstep.  He married Laura J Huckstep on June 11, 2004 in Taylorville.  He was a driver for ADM Trucking.  He was a Marine Veteran serving from 1973-1977 as Lance Corporal E4.  He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School.  He enjoyed Nascar, Golfing, Antiques and spending time with his grandkids, shooting pool bowling and hed also enjoyed motorcycles.

He is surviced by his wife: Laura, daughters: Crystal Huckstep of Jones, OK, Sarah House of Taylorville, Maegen (Kevin) Trone of Hillsboro, Beth Vogel and companion Drew Edwards of Hillsboro, grandchildren: Chloe Huckstep of Jones, OK, Cooper House of Taylorville, Kade and Kason Trone of Hillsboro and Meleah Edwards of Hillsboro, brothers: George Huckstep of Decatur, Bill Huckstep of Decatur, Larry Huckstep of Rantoul, Richard (Bernitta)Huckstep of Sullivan and Charles Brightman of Danville, sister: Linda Huckstep of Decatur and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Margaret Boone, brothers: Harold Brightman, Jim Brightman, Gene Huckstep and sister: Brenda Huckstep.

Mary Ramsey of Taylorville

Mary Ramsey, 87 of Taylorville passed away Sunday August 5, 2012 at 1:59pm at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born December 9, 1924 the daughter of Michael and Anna (Waitkas) Chernauski. She married Lawrence Ramsey in Kincaid, IL. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1968. She was a retired waitress from the West Side Restaurant. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints in Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by Sisters Anna Law of Taylorville, IL and Norma Jean (Willard) Callaway of Kincaid, IL, Sister-In-Law Flo Chernauski, Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded by Parents, Husband Lawrence, Brothers William and Michael Chernauski, Sister Ella Brown, Brothers-In-Law Fred Brown and John L. Law.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL. Graveside Services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Rev. Linda Vonck officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ralph Peifer of Nokomis

Ralph Peifer, 72 of Nokomis passed away Sunday August 5, 2012 at 11:28am. He was born September 5, 1939 in Tower Hill the son of Harry W. and Beula M. Murray Peifer. He married Margaret Johnson on October 11, 1958 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Nokomis. He was a Farmer/Inventor. He founded All Precision Manufacturing (AMP) and the Peifer Rifle Company and a man of many talents.

He is survived by Wife Margaret, Mother: Beula Peifer of Nokomis, Daughters Tammy (Curt) Braye of Nokomis, IL, Sonni Jo (Jesse) Thornton of Morrisville, NC, Sisters Margie (Frank) Osborne of Pana, IL, Sharon (Roger) Lewis of Tavares, FL, Grandchildren Miranda Braye of Nokomis, IL, Trevor (Kristen) Braye of Fort Hood, TX, Courtney Billings, Joshua Billings, Sara Thornton, John Thornton all of Morrisville, NC, Great-Grandchildren Keaton Ault, Dagen Kroski of Fort Hood, TX, Several Nieces and Nephews. J. William McChristy of Taylorville

J. William McChristy, 70, of Stonington, IL passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. He was born on March 27, 1942 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Wesley and Genova Durbin McChristy. He had been the president of The State Bank of Blue Mound for 35 years.

He is survived by wife Mary Lou Watson, Mother Genova McChristy, Sons Frank J. McChristy of Stonington and Michael T. McChristy of Mt. Zion, Grandchildren Meagan, Joe and Ben McChristy of Mt. Zion and Jamie and Jeff McChristy of Stonington, Brothers David H. McChristy of Stonington and Frank W. McChristy III of Blue Mound, Sister Nancy K. Dowdy of Stonington and several neices, nephews and cousins. He was preceeded by Grandparents Frank W. and Bonnie McChristy, Father Frank W. McChristy II and brother Joseph D. McChristy.

Dr. William Mitchelle officiating, burial will be at Old Stonington Cemetary in Stonington, IL. Sharon K. Durbin of Kokomo, IN

Sharon K. Durbin, 66, of Kokomo, IN passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at 8:42 pm in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born February 2, 1946 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Herbert and Margaret Edwards. She married Harold Laverne Durbin on June 6, 1964 in Taylorville, IL and preceded her on March 18,l 1977. She was a homemaker and an election judge. She was a member of the Republican party and Apostolic Lighthouse Church. She loved her Lord and was a pet lover and especially loved her dog Tony.

She is survived by Son Midchael Allen Durbin of Kokomo, IN, Brother Jim Edwards of Huffman, TX, Sisters Ann (Bob) Bandy of Taylorville, IL Marjorie Day of Neoga, IL, Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded by Parents, Husband Laverne, Sister Dorothy Nation, Betty Nolen, Norma Ernst, Carol Sue Nelson.
