Robert John Whittaker of Taylorville

Robert John Whittaker, 54, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 4:15 am Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Heritage Manor, NH, Pana, IL. He was born December 7, 1957 in Taylorville, the son of John William and Marie Dorothy Klaar Whittaker. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, and had been a bartender at the V.F.W. Post, Taylorville.

He is survived by his Mother Marie Whittaker of Taylorville, Brothers Brad Whittaker (Pam), William "Woody" Whittaker all of Taylorville, and Brent Whittaker of Chicago. Nieces and Nephews Heather Whittaker, Samantha Whittaker, David Whittaker, and Travis Whittaker. He was preceded in death by his Father, John W. Whittaker, and a Sister Beverly Whittaker.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 3 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service in the funeral home on Friday.

Terry G. Huffines of Taylorville

Terry G. Huffines, 69, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 6:53pm Friday, July 27, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born April 6, 1943 in Taylorville, the son of Cordell and Ollie Fuqua Huffines. On June 18, 1977 he married Mary Bass in Taylorville and they later divorced. He was a retired carpenter and a Navy Veteran. He was well known as an announcer at Junior High Basketball games, Taylorville Youth Football games, and Red Bland Little League games. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Taylorville, Sons Brandon Huffines (Rachel) of Reno, NV and Dan Christman (Michele) of Sidney, IL, Daughters Malinda Dubois (Tom) of Mustang, OK, and Malissa Taylor (Frank) of Taylorville, 6 Grandchildren, Sisters Louise Zaic of Arizona, Juanita Orr (Harry) of Taylorville, Darlene Blevins (Charles) of Edinburg, Joann Swinger (Ron) of Weldon, and Geraldine Thompson (Bill) of Palmer, several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Lucille Harp and Diane Harter and one brother, Rommie Huffines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 2, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery. He will be cremated following the services.

Marjorie Rochelle Swiney of Taylorville

Marjorie Rochelle Swiney 96, of Taylorville passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at 5:52am in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born July 2, 1916 the daughter of James H. and Ocie A (Lee) Smith. She married Loyd J. Swiney in Assumption, IL on October 27, 1935. She was a retired homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a 4-H Leader and a member of the Christian County Farm Bureau Extension. When she was young she loved to square dance and round dance.

She is survived by Husband Loyd, Sons Lyle E. (Virginia) Swiney of Lakewood, IL and Larry J. (Pam) Swiney of Bradford, TN, Daughter Joyce B. (Jim) Hunsley of Decatur, IL, 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, Sister Alma Malhoit of Huston, TX, Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. She was preceded by Parents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 6:00pm until 9pm at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with a prayer service to be held at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Assumption, IL.

Dorothy Rose Phelps of Taylorville

Dorothy Rose Phelps 91 of Taylorville passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at 3:06am at her daughters residence. She was born January 15, 1921 in Taylorville the daughter of John Wl and Clara Fay (Stacy) Lowry. She married Don R. Phelps on June 29, 1947 he preceded her in death on March 26, 1975. She was a homemaker and clerk at Jubelts Bakery until her retirement. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville. She trusted Christ as her Savior as a teenager and loved the Lord with all her heart. Dorothy loved studying God's word and was a prayer warrior committed to daily conversation with God. She was a faithful, charter member of Grace Baptist Church. Her second love was her children and her grandchildren

She is survived by Son John W (Barbara) Phelps of Merrillville, IN, Daughter Jenna S (John) Briggs of Taylorville. Grandchildren Heather (Robert) Greene of Joliet, IL, Joel (Jennifer) Phelps of Portage, IN, Hollie (Don) Rosenski of Portage, IN, Matthew Briggs (Angie Worker and children Clayton and Galton) of Pana, IL and Amanda Briggs of Indianapolis, IN, Great-Grandchildren Regan, Jarrett and Caleb Greene, Jordan, Joshua and Jakob Phelps, and Brandon Breanna and Collin Huff, Sisters Dorris Dewhirst of Indianapolis, IN and Mary Lou McGarry of Charleston, IL. Funeral will be 11 am Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Grace Baptist church in Taylorville with Pastor Philip Neumann officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral sercives. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.

Michael Thomas Kronkow of Taylorville

Michael Thomas Kronkow 51 of Taylorville, formerly of Elmhurst passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 5:13 am in Provena USMC, ER, Urbana IL. He was born January 17, 1961 in Elmhurst, IL the son of James and Florence (Zick) Kronkow. He married Cathy Hoffman on January 15, 1992 in Virgin Islands. He was a Truck Driver for Carry Transit in Decatur, IL. Me was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville

He is survived by Wife Cathy, Son Joshua Scruggs of Utah, Daughters Amy Kronkow and Julia Kronkow both of Taylorville, Brothers James (Louise) Kronkow of Byron, IL and Matthew (Marry) Kronkow of Batavia, IL, Sisters Sissy (Larry) Kieft of Elmhurst, Rose (Greg) Salomon of Oklahoma City, OK, Father James Kronkow of Villa Park, IL, Mother and Father-in-law Hannah and Albert Hoffman of Ohlman, IL, Brothers-in-law Al Hoffman Jr. of Ohlman, IL and Brian (Kim) Hoffman of Decatur, IL, Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded by his Mother Florence and Brother Gerald Kronkow.

Dwight Alan Frasier of Taylorville

Dwight Alan Frasier 66 of Taylorville passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 2:55am in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born April 24, 1946 in Washington, IL the son of Gus and Anna Waud (Pivonka) Frasier. He married Dana Richards on June 6, 1966. He was a coal miner at Peabody Coal Mine #10 for 25 years. He retired from Garrett Aviation after 10 years of service. He was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam from 1966-1968. His generosity, talents and sense if humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His is survived by Wife Dana, Daughters Dani (Dean) Moore of Edinburg, IL, Grandsons Dakota Griffiths and Frasier Moore both of Edinburg, IL, Step-Grandchildren John (Toni) Moore and Kurtis (Michelle) Moore all of Kentucky, Brother Trent (Libby) Frasier of Iron Station, NC, Sisters Maureen (Ed) Ridgeway of Rochester, IL, Sharla (Ronny) Wenzel of Hamilton, TX, Gayla Frasier of Chula Vista, CA, Tanya (Terry) Scovern of Springfield, IL and Pamela Tomizoli of Beloit, WI, Sisters-In-Law Sherry (the late Harry) Hallowell of Foley, AL and Kim (Greg) Fields of Springfield, IL, Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Step-Great-Grandchildren. Joyce Surratt of Palmer

Joyce Surratt, 76, of Palmer died at 11:07pm, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on July 26, 1935 in Palmer, the daughter of Murel and Julia Payne Stockon. She married Charles J Surratt on March 28, 1952 in Lewiston, IL. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Card games.

She is survived by her Husband Charles Surratt of Palmer, Daughters Diana DeLong of Palmer, Donna (Steve) Willey of Industry, IL, Devonna Kopp companion Mike of Camdenton Missouri and Dawn Surratt of Taylorville, Son Charles Surratt Jr. of Macomb IL, 15 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren, Brothers Richard (Giesla) Stockon of Morrisonville, and Gerald Stockon of Aledo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 3 grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday July 19, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 until 11am. Inurnment will be in the Anderson Cemetery.

John A Phares of Taylorville

John A. Phares passed away Saturday July 14, 2012 at 9:40 am in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. He was born September 14, 1929 in Moweaqua, IL the son of Orrin and Hester McPeek Phares. He married Kimberly K. Mansfield on July 19, 1979 in Florida. He was the owner of SPD Detail Center. He was retired from the United States Postal Service; Co owner of SPD Detail Center; and Fredrick's School of Fine Arts-President of Customer Relations. He was a memeber of Am vets post #29.

He is survived by his Spouse Kimberly, Sons Johnny Machino, Donald Machino, Scott (Nancy) Phares, Michael Phares, Joseph Phares, Daughters Sandra (Sam) Osborn, Pamela Phares, Diana Brown, Heather (Kevin) Mundhenke, Fourteen Grandchildren, Fifteen Great-Grandchildren, One Great Great Grandchild, Brothers Dwight (Delores) Phares of Shelbyville, Uncle Marvin Phares of Taylorville, Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded by Parents, Sisters Betty Boils and Ethel Fesser.

Bonnie Marie Kalka of Taylorville

Bonnie Marie Kalka, 77, of Taylorville, passed away July 12, 2012 at 9:29am in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.  She was born December 30, 1934 in Burnt Prairie, IL., the daughter of John and Edna (Bennett) Humes.  she married Joseph Kalka in October, 1951 in Taylorville.  She owned and operated Taylorville Income Tax Services.  She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Royal Order of the Moose Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Lori (Tim) Collins of Taylorville, Jennifer (Jack) Bryan of Hamilton, OH> and Ruby (Dennis) Knight of Muscatine, IA.; sister Elsie (Bill) Mann of Albion, IL.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded by her parents, son, Joseph, two brothers, four sisters and one niece.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 2:30pm in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.  Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 1:30 until 2:30pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Ellen A. Oller of Taylorville

Ellen A. Oller, 93, of Taylorville, passed away July 12, 2012 at 2:43pm in Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born September 8, 1918 in Taylorville, the daughter of Elbert Otis Snow and Floy Pearl (Byers) Snow.  She married Ben M. Oller who preceded her in death.  She was a retired garment worker.  She was a member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, the Friendly Neighbors Garden Club and the International Ladies Garment Worker Union #120 of Decatur, IL.

She is survived by nephew David G. Snow of Ballwin, MO., niece Linda K. (Snow) Close of Ottawa, IL., and several great nieces and great nephews.  She was preceded by her parents, husband, and brother George E. Snow.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 10:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Bill Kerns officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 6 - 8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Russell Paul Biondolino of Taylorville

Russell Paul Biondolino, 87, of Taylorville, passed away at 5:59pm, Friday, July 6, 2012 at his residence.  He was born July 14, 1924 in Hartford, Illinois, the son of Paul and Congetta Guarino Biondolino.  He married Betty Durbin on December 7, 2004 in Taylorville.  He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 until 1946.  He was an Electrician and later a self employed Independent Insurance Agent until he retired.  He was a past member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.  One of his favorite pastimes in his younger years was to fly his Cessna airplane.

He is survived by his children: Stephen P Biondolino, wife Jeanine of Taylorville, Karen Morris, husband John of Bellvue, Washington and David Biondolino of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, brothers: Sam Biondolino, wife Francis of Mena, Arizona, Jack Biondolino, wife Mary of Carthage, Illinois, sisters: Bertha McFarlane f Godfrey, Illinois, Catherine Robertson of Cleveland, Ohio and Rosalie Pursley of Alton, Illinois, grandchildren: Christopher P Biondolino of Taylorville, Sarah E Baker , husband Christopher of Herculaneum, Missouri, Elizabeth A Hohenstein, husband Neil of Taylorville, Stephanie Morris of Seatle, Washington and Debra Morris of New York, New York, great grandchildren: Keaton Hohenstein, Ella Hohenstein, Matthew Baker and Lincoln Coffey.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Paul Biondolino and brother: Phillip Biondolino.

Doris Lashbrook of Pana

Doris Lashbrook, 72, of Pana, passed away at 6:50am Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.  She was born October 18, 1939 in Johnson Township, the daughter of Harvey Joseph and Sarah Lucinda Gipson Fisher.  She married Guy Lashbrook in November, 1964 in Taylorville.  He preceded her in death September, 1965.  Doris was a nurse's aide at Ruth Smith Nursing Home, Taylorville Care Center, and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital.  She liked playing Bingo, sewing and painting fabrics.  She loved being around her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children:  Donald R. Fisher Sr. and wife Tonya of Pana, and Sarah A. Crain and husband Wendell Crain JR. of Stonington; sister, Florence Craig of Mattoon; 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Mary E. McClaughen, Goldie M. Fisher, Grace E. Allen, Dorothy P. Hooper and Norma J. Nagle; brothers, John J. Fisher, George F. Fisher and Charles E. Fisher Sr. and 2 grandchildren.

Berlin L. Sparling of Taylorville

Berlin L. Sparling, 91, of Taylorville, passed away July 3, 2012 at 7:22am at Taylorville Care Center.  He was born October 4, 1920 in Taylorville, the son of Lafayette and Ida Belle (Mills) Sparling.  He married Catherine Andrighetti in December, 1941 in St. Charles, MO.  He retired from Hopper Paper Mill; he worked for the city of Taylorville for several years and he worked Webster St. Recycling Bins until the age of 88.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Judy (Larry) Stringer of Taylorville; sister, Helen Johnson of Taylorville; sister-in-law, Antonia Verardi of Taylorville; brother-in-law, James (Greta) Andrighetti of Taylorville; 3 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eddy, Johnny Boy, Tom, Hershel and Alvin; sisters, Ethel Sparling, Mary Delaney, Josephine Schmiedeke, Lorranine Kelley, Ruby England and Shirley Gowdy; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Charles Banning officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Graveside Rites.  Visitation will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 from 9:00 till 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
